Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, is scaling back several planned crypto initiatives as new leadership moves to simplify the company’s strategy and concentrate more heavily on its media business and proposed merger with fusion-energy company TAE Technologies.
The shift marks a notable departure from the company’s earlier strategy, which aggressively pursued cryptocurrency and financial-services opportunities during the 2025 boom in digital-asset treasury companies. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn said the market has become increasingly crowded, making a more focused approach necessary.
Trump Media Ends Planned CRO Treasury Venture
Trump Media, Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. have mutually agreed to terminate plans for Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, a proposed publicly traded company centered on Crypto.com’s Cronos blockchain and CRO token.
The companies attributed the decision to changing market conditions and evolving business priorities. They also agreed to abandon a previously announced services arrangement and several related digital-asset products.
The existing America First ETFs, which operate under the Truth Social Funds brand, will continue.
The proposed CRO venture had been designed to accumulate a significant treasury of CRO tokens and generate additional returns through those holdings. When first announced, the companies described it as potentially becoming the first and largest publicly traded CRO treasury company.
McGurn said the changing importance of staking for Crypto.com, combined with broader market dynamics, contributed to the decision to move in a different direction.
Prediction Market Plans Also Scaled Back
Trump Media is also reducing its plans to integrate prediction markets directly into Truth Social.
Rather than developing and operating the underlying infrastructure itself, the company now intends to pursue a marketing and distribution partnership that would promote Crypto.com’s prediction-market products to Truth Social users.
McGurn said the prediction-market sector has become increasingly competitive, making it less attractive for Trump Media to invest resources in building the underlying technology.
The revised strategy positions TMTG primarily as a distribution and data partner, allowing it to monetize its audience without taking on the cost and complexity of operating financial products itself.
Focus Shifts Toward Media, Data and Distribution
The changes form part of a broader effort by McGurn to streamline Trump Media’s business model.
Rather than expanding into every emerging financial opportunity, the company increasingly appears focused on leveraging assets it already controls, particularly its audience, data and media platforms.
Its recently launched API business has reportedly expanded to around 10 customers, up from roughly five previously. Customers include high-frequency trading firms that use data from platforms such as Truth Social to inform algorithmic trading strategies.
The company is also exploring additional licensing opportunities with news organizations, indexes, large language-model developers and prediction-market platforms.
TAE Merger Remains a Key Priority
Trump Media’s strategic reset also comes as it works toward its proposed merger with fusion-energy company TAE Technologies.
McGurn said the company remains hopeful that the transaction will close before the end of the year.
The broader strategy suggests that Trump Media is moving away from building a collection of crypto and financial businesses and toward a more focused model centered on media, data licensing, distribution and strategic partnerships.
For the company, the change represents a shift from trying to own the infrastructure behind emerging financial products to monetizing the audience and data it already possesses.
