Robinhood explores Crypto.com partnership as prediction market competition intensifies

Robinhood explores Crypto.com partnership as prediction market competition intensifies

Robinhood is reportedly in discussions with Crypto.com to integrate the exchange’s prediction market contracts into its trading platform, a move that could significantly expand its event trading offerings while intensifying competition in the rapidly growing prediction markets sector.

If an agreement is reached, Robinhood users would be able to trade yes-or-no event contracts powered by Crypto.com’s regulated infrastructure without leaving the Robinhood app, giving customers access to a broader range of prediction markets through a single platform.

The talks also signal Robinhood’s strategy of building a diversified prediction market ecosystem rather than relying on a single exchange partner.

Robinhood Expands Its Prediction Market Ecosystem

According to reports, Robinhood is exploring ways to add Crypto.com’s event contracts alongside products already offered through existing partners.

The brokerage currently provides prediction markets using contracts from Kalshi, ForecastEx, and Rothera, a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-licensed exchange and clearinghouse in which Robinhood invested during 2025.

Adding Crypto.com would further diversify Robinhood’s marketplace, allowing customers to access more contracts while reducing dependence on any one trading venue.

Although negotiations are ongoing, there is no guarantee the companies will reach a final agreement.

Hybrid Strategy Combines Internal and External Infrastructure

Rather than building every component itself, Robinhood appears to be pursuing a hybrid strategy that combines its own affiliated infrastructure with external exchanges.

Earlier this year, the company began routing certain sports-related contracts, including World Cup and professional baseball markets, through Rothera.

At the same time, partnerships with third-party exchanges such as Crypto.com could significantly expand the variety of contracts available to users.

Industry analysts believe this approach allows Robinhood to maintain flexibility while improving operational efficiency and retaining a larger share of transaction revenue.

Prediction Markets Continue Rapid Growth

Prediction markets have become one of the fastest-growing segments within digital finance.

Robinhood reported that more than 16 billion event contracts were traded on its platform during 2026, already surpassing the total volume recorded throughout the previous year.

The rapid increase reflects growing retail interest in trading outcomes tied to sporting events, politics, financial markets and other real-world events.

As user demand expands, trading platforms are racing to strengthen their prediction market infrastructure and product offerings.

Crypto.com Strengthens Its Position

Crypto.com launched its standalone prediction market platform, OG, earlier this year using infrastructure operated by Crypto.com Derivatives North America, a CFTC-regulated exchange and clearinghouse.

The company reported that activity on its prediction markets platform increased approximately 40-fold during the six months preceding its launch.

Beyond its own consumer platform, Crypto.com has also partnered with other brands to provide regulated event contracts, demonstrating its ambition to become a major infrastructure provider within the sector.

Competition With Kalshi Intensifies

A partnership between Robinhood and Crypto.com would also increase competitive pressure on Kalshi, one of the largest regulated prediction market operators in the United States.

Although Kalshi continues supplying contracts to Robinhood, industry analysts note that Robinhood’s growing investment in its own infrastructure has gradually reduced its reliance on external providers.

Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour has previously acknowledged Robinhood as one of the company’s primary competitors despite the ongoing commercial relationship between the two firms.

The evolving landscape suggests that collaboration and competition are increasingly occurring simultaneously within the prediction market industry.

Financial Platforms Race to Control Infrastructure

The broader trend extends beyond Robinhood.

Financial technology companies are increasingly investing in their own exchanges, clearing systems and trading infrastructure rather than relying entirely on third-party providers.

Owning more of the transaction pipeline allows platforms to improve efficiency, introduce new products more quickly and retain revenue that would otherwise be paid to external exchanges.

Several major companies, including Coinbase, DraftKings and traditional financial institutions, have also been expanding their regulated market infrastructure to capture a larger share of this emerging industry.

Prediction Markets Become a Strategic Growth Area

The growing interest from brokerages, cryptocurrency exchanges and traditional financial firms highlights prediction markets’ emergence as a significant new asset class.

Originally associated mainly with political forecasting, prediction markets now cover sports, economic indicators, entertainment, elections and other real-world events.

As regulatory clarity improves and consumer demand continues rising, platforms are increasingly viewing event contracts as a long-term source of user engagement and revenue.

If Robinhood ultimately finalises an agreement with Crypto.com, it would further strengthen the company’s position in the rapidly evolving prediction market ecosystem while reinforcing the broader convergence of traditional brokerage services, cryptocurrency infrastructure and regulated event trading.
