Blockchain analytics company Chainalysis has detailed the results of Operation Lighthouse, an international investigative initiative focused on cryptocurrency activity associated with CSAM distribution networks.
The operation examined 29,120 cryptocurrency addresses and digital identifiers and investigated more than 100 websites, forums and distribution networks operating across both the surface web and dark web.
The initiative brought together law enforcement agencies, cryptocurrency companies and nonprofit organizations to analyze blockchain transactions and identify potential connections between digital wallets, financial services and suspected criminal networks.
Because many public blockchains permanently record transaction histories, investigators can follow the movement of cryptocurrency between addresses. While a blockchain address does not automatically reveal who controls it, transaction patterns can be combined with information from exchanges, payment providers and law enforcement investigations to help identify individuals.

According to Chainalysis, the operation generated approximately:
- 29,120 cryptocurrency addresses and digital identifiers investigated
- 14,300 investigative leads generated
- 7,700+ potentially suspicious accounts identified

The figures represent investigative leads and accounts rather than confirmed criminal cases.

Similar techniques have also been applied to dark-web financial services and cryptocurrency laundering networks, where investigators have tracked large volumes of Bitcoin moving through associated wallets.
