Dubai Reaches 50 Licensed Crypto Firms as VARA Expands Regulated Digital Asset Ecosystem

Dubai Reaches 50 Licensed Crypto Firms as VARA Expands Regulated Digital Asset Ecosystem

Dubai has reached another milestone in its ambition to become a global digital asset hub after the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) granted its 50th Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license.

The latest approval was awarded to Tribe Tokenisation FZE, a company focused on tokenized assets, reflecting the continued expansion of Dubai’s regulated crypto ecosystem.

VARA Continues to Grow Its Licensed Market

The new license brings the total number of VARA-approved crypto businesses to 50, underscoring the emirate’s commitment to building a regulated environment for digital asset companies.

However, regulators noted that receiving a license does not necessarily mean a company is immediately operating. Newly approved firms typically complete a supervised onboarding process before launching commercial services or accepting customers.

At the end of 2025, 39 licensed VASPs had completed this process and were fully operational. Updated figures for 2026 are expected as more firms move into active service.

Dubai Strengthens Its Position as a Crypto Hub

Since establishing VARA in 2022, Dubai has introduced one of the world’s first dedicated regulatory frameworks focused exclusively on virtual assets.

The licensing regime has attracted exchanges, custody providers, tokenization platforms, brokers, and other blockchain companies seeking regulatory clarity while expanding into international markets.

Dubai’s strategy combines clear compliance standards with a business-friendly environment, helping position the emirate as a preferred destination for digital asset innovation.

Dubai Outpaces Regional Competitors

Dubai’s licensing progress now places it ahead of several major financial centers competing for crypto businesses.

According to publicly available regulatory data:

  • Dubai (VARA): 50 licensed Virtual Asset Service Providers.
  • Singapore (MAS): 37 licensed Digital Payment Token service providers.
  • Hong Kong (SFC): 13 licensed virtual asset trading platforms.

While these figures reflect different regulatory frameworks and licensing categories, they illustrate Dubai’s rapid growth as one of the world’s largest regulated crypto markets.

More Than Just License Numbers

VARA emphasizes that market success is measured by more than the number of approved firms.

The regulator also evaluates factors such as transaction volumes, assets under management, employment, operational activity, and financial reporting to assess the overall health of Dubai’s digital asset ecosystem.

This approach aims to ensure licensed companies contribute meaningfully to the market rather than simply holding regulatory approval.

Why It Matters

Dubai’s latest licensing milestone highlights the increasing global competition among financial centers to attract blockchain businesses through clear and transparent regulation.

As jurisdictions continue refining their digital asset frameworks, regulatory certainty is becoming a key factor influencing where exchanges, tokenization platforms, and crypto service providers choose to establish operations.

With 50 licensed firms and a growing number entering active operations, Dubai continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading regulated destinations for the digital asset industry.
