BlackRock’s BUIDL Reclaims Top Spot as Tokenized Treasury Market Nears $15B

BlackRock’s BUIDL fund has regained its position as the largest tokenized U.S. Treasury product, reaching approximately $2.8 billion in assets. The fund briefly lost the lead to Circle’s USYC earlier this year, but has now moved back ahead as demand for blockchain-based Treasury products continues to expand.

  • BUIDL holds roughly $2.8 billion in assets.
  • The fund represents about 18.5% of the $15.1 billion tokenized Treasury market.
  • Circle’s USYC briefly overtook BUIDL in March 2026.
  • Securitize manages BUIDL across eight blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, and Aptos.
  • Tokenized Treasury products continue attracting institutional capital seeking blockchain-based access to traditional yield.

BUIDL Retakes the Market Lead

BlackRock’s BUIDL has once again become the largest tokenized U.S. Treasury product by assets under management.

The fund, formally known as the USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, has grown to approximately $2.8 billion, narrowly moving ahead of Circle’s USYC.

BUIDL’s position represents roughly 18.5% of the $15.1 billion tokenized Treasury market, according to the figures cited in the source material.

The market remains highly competitive, however. Circle’s USYC previously surpassed BUIDL in March, demonstrating how quickly rankings can change as institutional investors move capital between tokenized Treasury products.

How BUIDL Brings Treasuries Onchain

BlackRock launched BUIDL in March 2024 as its first tokenized fund.

The product was developed and is administered with Securitize, which provides asset-servicing infrastructure across eight blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Aptos, and BNB Chain.

BUIDL is designed to maintain a target value of $1 per token, while income generated by its underlying assets is reflected through a daily rebasing mechanism.

Rather than representing a speculative cryptocurrency, the fund provides blockchain-based access to traditional short-term financial instruments.

Its portfolio consists primarily of cash, short-term U.S. Treasury bills, and repurchase agreements, giving the product a significantly different risk profile from typical crypto assets.

Tokenized Treasuries Attract Institutional Interest

The growth of BUIDL is part of a broader expansion in tokenized government debt.

The overall tokenized Treasury market has grown to approximately $15.1 billion, with established financial companies and crypto-native firms competing for institutional demand.

Franklin Templeton, Ondo Finance, Circle, and other participants have expanded their presence as investors increasingly explore ways to combine traditional yield-generating assets with blockchain infrastructure.

The appeal is relatively straightforward: investors can gain exposure to conventional Treasury-backed instruments while benefiting from blockchain-based settlement and transfer mechanisms.

BUIDL’s Lead Remains Vulnerable

Although BUIDL has reclaimed first place, the gap between leading products remains relatively narrow.

USYC’s earlier rise demonstrates that competitors can quickly attract enough capital to challenge BlackRock’s position.

At the same time, the expansion of the overall market means BUIDL is competing not only with Circle but with an increasingly diverse group of tokenized Treasury products.

The market’s growth suggests that competition is increasingly focused on distribution, liquidity, settlement infrastructure, and accessibility, rather than simply the size of the underlying Treasury portfolio.

Blockchain Infrastructure Expands BUIDL’s Reach

BlackRock’s partnership with Securitize has also created additional infrastructure around BUIDL.

The ecosystem has expanded through initiatives involving Securitize, Ethena, and Uniswap Labs, including mechanisms designed to facilitate around-the-clock swaps and broader trading access.

These developments could make it easier for institutional investors to move capital into and out of tokenized Treasury products.

Greater interoperability may ultimately become an important competitive advantage as multiple issuers seek to attract the same institutional liquidity.

Tokenized Treasuries Bridge Traditional Finance and Blockchain

The resurgence of BUIDL highlights a broader trend in financial markets: traditional assets are increasingly being represented and transferred through blockchain networks.

Tokenized Treasury funds are fundamentally different from cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. Their underlying assets remain conventional government securities and related instruments, while blockchain technology provides the infrastructure for issuing, transferring, and settling the investment.

For institutions that want exposure to traditional fixed-income assets without taking direct cryptocurrency price risk, that combination can be particularly attractive.

BUIDL’s return to the top underscores BlackRock’s growing presence in tokenized finance, while the expanding market suggests competition for institutional blockchain-based liquidity is only beginning.
