BitGo Acquires NYDIG’s Institutional Trading Business

BitGo Acquires NYDIG’s Institutional Trading Business

BitGo has completed the acquisition of NYDIG’s institutional trading operations, strengthening its position in the institutional digital-asset market and expanding its capabilities across derivatives, structured products and financing.

The transaction brings NYDIG’s institutional trading relationships and approximately 30 employees into BitGo. The companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the deal.

BitGo Expands Institutional Trading Capabilities

The acquired business provides a range of capital-markets services to professional clients, including derivatives trading, structured products, financing and institutional execution.

Its customer base includes asset managers, hedge funds and corporate clients.

BitGo CEO Mike Belshe said the acquisition is expected to significantly expand the company’s trading infrastructure and enable it to support a broader range of institutional strategies.

For BitGo, the transaction adds another layer to its existing digital-asset infrastructure business, extending its offering beyond custody and settlement into more sophisticated trading and financing services.

NYDIG Focuses on Energy and Computing Infrastructure

For NYDIG, the transaction allows the company to concentrate more heavily on its infrastructure strategy.

The company said it plans to direct resources toward power generation, Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing data centers.

NYDIG currently has a development pipeline exceeding 3 gigawatts of capacity, including more than 1 GW expected to be delivered during 2027 and 2028.

The shift highlights the growing overlap between Bitcoin mining infrastructure and the broader demand for high-performance computing capacity.

As AI and other compute-intensive applications increase electricity and data-center requirements, companies with access to power infrastructure are increasingly positioning themselves around both digital-asset mining and high-performance computing.

Institutional Crypto Market Continues to Broaden

BitGo’s acquisition comes as institutional investors increasingly seek access to a wider range of digital-asset products.

Traditional spot exposure is only one part of the market. Professional investors also require derivatives, financing, structured products, liquidity and sophisticated risk-management tools.

By bringing NYDIG’s institutional trading relationships and specialized capabilities into its platform, BitGo can potentially offer clients a more integrated suite of services.

The addition of experienced personnel is also important, as institutional trading requires specialized expertise in execution, risk management and capital markets.

A Strategic Shift for Both Companies

The transaction effectively gives the two companies different areas of focus.

BitGo gains greater depth in institutional trading and financing, while NYDIG concentrates more heavily on physical infrastructure, energy and computing capacity.

The restructuring reflects a broader trend within the digital-asset industry: companies are increasingly separating financial services from the infrastructure required to support mining, data centers and high-performance computing.

For BitGo, the acquisition strengthens its institutional proposition at a time when demand for regulated and integrated crypto financial services continues to develop.

For NYDIG, focusing on energy and computing infrastructure could position the company to benefit from growing demand for both Bitcoin mining and data-center capacity.

The financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
