The crypto industry witnessed two major developments today: one of Ethereum’s most notorious MEV bots suffered a multi-million-dollar exploit, while the Philippines moved closer to embracing tokenized real-world assets as part of its financial future.
Ethereum’s Most Infamous MEV Bot Loses $7.5 Million
One of the largest and most controversial profit-generating bots on Ethereum, Jaredfromsubway.eth, has been exploited for more than $7.5 million in a sophisticated attack that security researchers believe was carefully prepared over several weeks.
According to blockchain security firm Blockaid, the attacker manipulated the bot’s automated execution logic, tricking it into approving malicious contracts. Once those approvals were granted, the attacker was able to drain millions of dollars worth of tokens from the bot’s wallets.
The incident is particularly notable because Jaredfromsubway.eth itself has long been known for exploiting opportunities created by ordinary users’ trades.
What Is a Sandwich Attack?
Jaredfromsubway.eth is widely recognized as one of Ethereum’s most active MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) bots. These bots monitor pending blockchain transactions and strategically place their own trades before and after a user’s transaction to profit from price movements.
This practice, known as a sandwich attack, often results in users receiving worse prices while the bot captures the difference as profit.
Research estimates that sandwich attacks have cost Ethereum traders tens of millions of dollars annually, with Jaredfromsubway.eth responsible for a significant share of these transactions.
Ironically, the bot that spent years extracting profits from others became the victim of an equally sophisticated automated exploit.
Philippines Signals Support for Real-World Asset Tokenization
In a separate development, the Philippines Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has expressed growing confidence in blockchain-based asset tokenization.
Speaking at Philippine Blockchain Week 2026, SEC Commissioner Rogelio Quevedo said regulators now believe they possess the legal and regulatory framework necessary to support tokenized assets within the country’s financial system.
According to Quevedo, tokenization has the potential to modernize capital markets and reshape how traditional assets are bought, sold, and invested in.
A New Opportunity for Overseas Filipino Workers
One of the most significant use cases highlighted by regulators involves Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
Millions of Filipinos working abroad send money home every year, yet many struggle to find secure investment opportunities. Regulators believe tokenized financial products could provide a transparent and regulated alternative to high-risk or fraudulent schemes that have historically targeted retail investors.
Regulators Turn to AI Against Investment Scams
Alongside tokenization efforts, Philippine authorities are also increasing their use of artificial intelligence to combat online investment fraud.
The SEC has been collaborating with major technology companies, including social media and internet platforms, to identify and remove illegal investment promotions and scams that target unsuspecting investors.
The Bigger Picture
Today’s developments reflect two very different sides of the crypto industry.
On one hand, increasingly sophisticated attacks continue to expose vulnerabilities within decentralized finance and automated trading systems.
On the other, governments are becoming more comfortable with blockchain technology and exploring how tokenization can modernize traditional financial markets.
As crypto matures, security and regulation are emerging as two of the most important themes shaping the industry’s future.
