Zimbabwe is expanding its support for financial innovation after the Securities and Exchange Commission of Zimbabwe (SECZ) admitted seven fintech projects into its regulatory sandbox, with blockchain-based tokenization emerging as the dominant focus.
The newly accepted participants include Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange, Ndarama Standard, Questview Brokers, Crowdaxe Capital, Procode Platforms, Financial Securities Exchange (FINSEC), and Colmin Resources Zimbabwe. Together, the projects cover a wide range of financial technologies, including blockchain-powered capital raising, crowdfunding, synthetic trading, and the tokenization of assets, securities and infrastructure.
Notably, four of the seven projects are centered on tokenization, highlighting Zimbabwe’s growing interest in using blockchain technology to modernize capital markets and create new investment opportunities.
Under the SECZ’s Regulatory Sandbox Guidelines, participating companies can test their products and services in a controlled environment under regulatory supervision. The sandbox allows innovators to evaluate their business models while enabling regulators to assess potential risks before wider market adoption.
However, SECZ emphasized that admission into the sandbox does not guarantee full commercial approval. Even after successfully completing the testing phase, participants must still satisfy all regulatory and licensing requirements before they can launch commercial operations.
The latest intake reflects a broader shift toward blockchain-enabled financial infrastructure, with tokenization increasingly viewed as a tool for improving market accessibility, enhancing liquidity and bringing traditionally illiquid assets into regulated investment markets. As more jurisdictions explore digital asset frameworks, Zimbabwe’s regulatory sandbox is positioning itself as a testing ground for next-generation financial products while maintaining regulatory oversight.
