PMorgan, Mastercard, Ripple, and Ondo Finance have successfully carried out a groundbreaking institutional pilot showcasing how tokenized U.S. Treasury assets can be redeemed and settled almost instantly through the XRP Ledger. The transaction, completed on May 6, highlighted the growing role of blockchain infrastructure in modern financial settlement systems.
In the pilot, tokenized U.S. Treasuries were redeemed across borders using the XRP Ledger, with the blockchain portion of the transaction finalized in roughly 4.2 seconds. Fiat settlement was then processed through JPMorgan’s Kinexys platform and delivered to a DBS Bank account in Singapore. Notably, the transaction took place outside traditional banking hours, emphasizing the capability for continuous, 24/7 institutional settlement.
At the center of the initiative was Ondo Finance’s OUSG tokenized treasury product, which represents approximately $250 million in assets backed by short-term U.S. Treasuries. The fund carries an average maturity of 100 days and currently offers a 4.8% yield, with more than 1,200 institutional investors participating as of May 2026.
The significance of the pilot extends far beyond transaction speed. It marks the first publicly confirmed example of a public blockchain functioning as the settlement layer for a tokenized real-world asset redemption that connects directly into JPMorgan’s institutional banking infrastructure. This differentiates the initiative from earlier tokenization experiments that were limited to private or permissioned blockchain environments.
The timing of the transaction also appears intentional. By executing the redemption well beyond normal U.S. banking hours, the consortium demonstrated that blockchain-powered settlement between public ledgers and traditional banking rails can operate independently of conventional market schedules, potentially paving the way for always-on global financial markets.
