Trump Jr.-Linked 1789 Capital Reportedly Leads $1B Polymarket Funding Round

Investment firm 1789 Capital, where Donald Trump Jr. is a partner, is reportedly preparing to invest around $300 million in Polymarket as part of a larger $1 billion financing round that could value the prediction-market platform at approximately $21 billion.

  • 1789 Capital could invest about $300 million in the latest Polymarket funding round.
  • The financing could value Polymarket at roughly $21 billion.
  • The investment would reportedly bring 1789 Capital’s total exposure to Polymarket to around $500 million.
  • ICE remains Polymarket’s largest disclosed institutional investor, with about $1.6 billion invested.
  • Prediction markets continue to face regulatory challenges in the U.S. and other countries.

1789 Capital Reportedly Backs Polymarket’s $1B Round

Polymarket is reportedly preparing to raise approximately $1 billion in new capital, with 1789 Capital expected to play a leading role in the financing.

According to people familiar with the matter cited in the original report, 1789 Capital could contribute roughly $300 million to the round.

The proposed financing would reportedly place Polymarket’s valuation at around $21 billion, bringing the blockchain-based prediction market close to the estimated $22 billion valuation of rival platform Kalshi.

If completed, the transaction would represent a significant increase in 1789 Capital’s financial commitment to Polymarket.

The investment firm’s existing and proposed investments would bring its total exposure to approximately $500 million, potentially making it one of Polymarket’s most significant backers.

Polymarket and 1789 Capital had not publicly confirmed the reported transaction in the supplied information.

ICE Remains a Major Polymarket Investor

While 1789 Capital could become one of Polymarket’s largest supporters, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) remains the platform’s largest disclosed investor.

ICE reported in a July regulatory filing that it had invested approximately $1.6 billion in Polymarket preferred shares.

As of June 30, those holdings carried a value of roughly $2 billion and represented about 22% of Polymarket’s outstanding shares, or approximately 14% on a fully diluted basis.

The scale of ICE’s position highlights the growing interest from traditional financial institutions in prediction-market platforms and their potential role within the broader financial ecosystem.

Polymarket’s Valuation Has Climbed Rapidly

Polymarket’s reported valuation has increased substantially during its latest fundraising efforts.

The company was reportedly seeking approximately $400 million in new financing in April, with an expected valuation of around $15 billion at the time.

The latest reported $21 billion valuation would represent a significant increase from that earlier figure.

It would also leave Polymarket just below Kalshi’s reported $22 billion valuation, setting up an increasingly competitive race between the two major prediction-market platforms.

Prediction markets allow users to trade contracts tied to the outcomes of future events, including elections, economic developments, sports, and other real-world events.

Their rapid growth has attracted both substantial investment and increased regulatory attention.

Prediction Markets Face Growing Regulatory Pressure

The industry’s expansion has occurred alongside growing scrutiny from regulators, financial institutions, and governments.

In August, JPMorgan Chase reportedly ended its banking relationship with Polymarket because of regulatory concerns, although the bank was reportedly still interested in potentially participating as an underwriter if the prediction-market company eventually pursued a public listing.

Polymarket has also encountered legal challenges across multiple U.S. states.

More than a dozen states have taken legal action involving Polymarket, Kalshi, or both, particularly over contracts connected to sporting events.

The regulatory debate centers on whether certain prediction contracts should be treated as financial products, gambling activities, or another category of regulated market.

International Restrictions Add Another Challenge

Polymarket’s regulatory issues are not limited to the United States.

Authorities in several countries have restricted or blocked access to the platform, with concerns often focusing on whether prediction-market contracts constitute unauthorized gambling or financial activity.

These restrictions could become increasingly important as Polymarket expands internationally and attempts to attract mainstream users and institutional capital.

The company’s ability to navigate different regulatory regimes may therefore become just as important as its user growth and trading volume.

A $21B Valuation Raises the Stakes

A potential $1 billion financing round at a $21 billion valuation would mark another major milestone for Polymarket and demonstrate the substantial investor interest surrounding prediction markets.

The reported involvement of 1789 Capital would also deepen the firm’s relationship with the platform, while ICE’s existing investment provides Polymarket with backing from a major traditional financial-market operator.

However, the company’s rapid valuation growth comes at a time when prediction markets are under increasing regulatory examination.

Polymarket’s next phase will therefore depend on more than raising capital. Its ability to maintain growth, expand internationally, compete with Kalshi, and establish a sustainable regulatory framework could ultimately determine whether its multibillion-dollar valuation can be justified over the long term.
