Strategy has returned to Bitcoin accumulation after a two-month pause, purchasing 4,603 BTC for approximately $370 million. The latest acquisition comes as the company continues strengthening its cash position and managing its preferred-stock financing strategy.
- Strategy purchased 4,603 BTC for $370 million.
- The company now holds 845,050 BTC.
- The latest purchase is Strategy’s first Bitcoin acquisition since June.
- The purchase was funded primarily through a $602 million MSTR stock sale.
- Strategy also added to its cash reserves and repurchased $151.8 million of STRC preferred stock.
Strategy Makes Its First Bitcoin Purchase Since June
Strategy has resumed adding Bitcoin to its corporate treasury after a roughly two-month pause.
According to a Monday filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company purchased 4,603 BTC for approximately $370 million, paying an average of $80,318 per Bitcoin.
The acquisition increases Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings to 845,050 BTC. The company has spent approximately $63.3 billion accumulating its Bitcoin position, giving it an average acquisition cost of around $75,413 per BTC.
The purchase represents Strategy’s first reported Bitcoin acquisition since mid-June, when it added 1,587 BTC for roughly $100 million.
Saylor Signals the Return to Bitcoin Accumulation
The purchase follows a cryptic weekend message from Strategy co-founder and executive chairman Michael Saylor.
Saylor posted “We’re Back” on X on Sunday, prompting speculation that Strategy was preparing to resume its Bitcoin buying program.
The message gained attention because Saylor has frequently used short weekend posts to hint at upcoming Bitcoin treasury announcements.
The latest purchase confirms that Strategy has once again begun expanding its BTC holdings after spending much of the summer focusing on its balance sheet and financing operations.
Stock Sale Provides Funding for the Purchase
Strategy financed the latest Bitcoin acquisition primarily through proceeds from a $602 million sale of MSTR common stock.
The company allocated approximately $30 million of the proceeds toward increasing its U.S. dollar cash reserve.
Another $151.8 million was used to repurchase Strategy’s STRC preferred shares.
The allocation demonstrates that Strategy is continuing to balance Bitcoin accumulation with liquidity management and its broader capital strategy.
STRC Remains an Important Funding Tool
Strategy’s STRC perpetual preferred stock remains an important component of the company’s approach to financing Bitcoin purchases.
STRC was trading around $97.33 in Monday pre-market activity, approximately 0.44% higher but still below its intended $100 par value.
Trading below par can make additional STRC issuance more difficult because investors may be less willing to purchase new shares at $100 when the existing security is trading at a discount.
The situation could also put pressure on Strategy to offer a higher dividend rate to make the preferred shares more attractive to investors.
Strategy’s Capital Strategy Evolves
Strategy outlined a broader capital framework in a June 29 filing that provided greater flexibility around its Bitcoin holdings and dividend obligations.
The company subsequently raised the annual dividend rate on STRC to 12%.
Strategy has also demonstrated that Bitcoin sales are possible under its evolving capital framework. Earlier in June, the company disclosed the sale of 32 BTC, representing its first reported Bitcoin sale since a 2022 tax-related transaction.
That sale marked a notable change for a company widely associated with continuously expanding its Bitcoin holdings.
MSTR Reacts After Recent Market Volatility
Strategy’s Nasdaq-listed MSTR shares were up less than 1% in Monday pre-market trading after falling more than 7% on Friday.
The relatively modest pre-market response suggests investors were weighing the new Bitcoin purchase alongside the company’s recent share-price volatility and financing strategy.
The acquisition nevertheless reinforces Strategy’s position as the largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin.
Strategy Returns to Its Core Bitcoin Strategy
The latest purchase marks a clear return to the strategy that has defined the company under Saylor’s leadership.
After pausing Bitcoin purchases for roughly two months, Strategy has now added another 4,603 BTC, taking its total holdings to 845,050 BTC.
At the same time, the company is maintaining a substantial cash reserve and using preferred-stock transactions to manage its financing needs.
Strategy’s latest move signals that its Bitcoin accumulation strategy remains central to its corporate direction, even as the company continues adapting its capital structure to support that long-term commitment.
