Ether is holding near the lower boundary of its recent range, but repeated rejection around $2,500 is keeping the next major move uncertain.
Ethereum traded near $2,468 on September 10, with buyers attempting to defend the lower end of a multiweek trading range. ETH moved between roughly $2,455 and $2,485 during the session, remaining below the psychologically important $2,500 level.
The short-term technical picture remains balanced. Support is concentrated around $2,440 to $2,460, while resistance begins near $2,490 and extends through $2,500 to $2,508.
A decisive move outside these boundaries could determine whether Ethereum resumes its broader recovery or enters another downward leg.
Ethereum Holds Above the Lower End of Its Range

Ethereum’s latest session showed relatively limited price movement compared with the sharp advance that began in August.
ETH opened around $2,468.14, reached an intraday high of approximately $2,484.76, and slipped as low as $2,455.17.
The narrow range suggests that neither buyers nor sellers have established clear short-term control.
Ethereum remains substantially stronger than it was before its August rally, when the cryptocurrency traded below $1,900. However, momentum has slowed considerably as the price approaches the $2,500 region.
Repeated attempts to move above that level have failed since late August, making it a critical area for traders watching the next breakout attempt.
Four-Hour Chart Places $2,460 in Focus

The four-hour technical setup shows ETH trading close to the lower Bollinger Band at approximately $2,460.49.
The indicator’s middle band was around $2,484.18, while the upper band stood near $2,507.87.
With ETH below the middle band and close to the lower boundary, short-term selling pressure remains evident.
A sustained move below $2,460 could expose the recent low near $2,445.
Conversely, reclaiming the Bollinger middle band would shift attention back toward the $2,500 to $2,508 resistance area.
The technical structure therefore remains relatively straightforward:
$2,460 support → $2,484 midpoint → $2,500 to $2,508 resistance
Momentum Indicators Offer No Clear Direction
Other indicators also suggest that Ethereum has yet to establish a decisive short-term trend.
The four-hour Chaikin Money Flow reading was close to zero, indicating no strong net capital inflow or outflow during the period.
That neutral reading fits the broader sideways price structure.
The daily Average Directional Index stood at 50.56, well above the commonly watched 25 threshold. However, ADX measures trend strength rather than direction.
In this case, the elevated reading largely reflects the strength of Ethereum’s broader move from August, rather than providing confirmation that another immediate rally is underway.
Liquidation Levels Could Amplify the Next Move
The derivatives market adds another layer of risk.
CoinGlass’ 24-hour Ethereum liquidation map showed significant concentrations of leveraged positions both above and below the current price.
Below ETH, one of the closest major clusters appeared around $2,440, with additional liquidity concentrated between approximately $2,400 and $2,430.
A break below $2,440 could therefore trigger liquidations among leveraged long positions and potentially accelerate the decline toward lower liquidity zones.
Above the market, another substantial cluster appeared around $2,490, followed by concentrations between approximately $2,520 and $2,535. Additional liquidity was visible near $2,550.
This creates the potential for sharp price movements in either direction if one of the major zones is breached.
$2,490 Could Become the First Upside Trigger
A move above $2,490 could force short positions to unwind and potentially push ETH toward the $2,520 region.
However, breaking through that level would not necessarily confirm a larger bullish breakout.
The more important resistance zone remains around $2,500 to $2,508, followed by the broader $2,550 threshold.
The concentration of leveraged positions around these levels means a relatively modest price move could potentially produce a larger reaction as traders close positions.
Analysts Watch $2,550 for Confirmation
Crypto trader Daan Crypto Trades has highlighted Ethereum’s relatively tight range and support near $2,460.
The analyst suggested that neither bulls nor bears currently have a decisive advantage while ETH remains inside the range.
A breakout could change that balance quickly, particularly because leveraged positions are concentrated on both sides of the market.
Analyst Ted Pillows has identified a broader range between approximately $2,450 and $2,550.
According to this framework, Ethereum would need a weekly close above $2,550 to establish stronger evidence of another upward move.
If that breakout occurs, the next Murray Math level is approximately $2,656.25, followed by $2,812.50. A still higher resistance area appears around $2,968.75.
A Break Below $2,450 Would Change the Picture
The bearish scenario becomes more significant if Ethereum loses the lower boundary of the broader range.
A sustained break below approximately $2,450 would weaken the current consolidation structure and bring lower support levels into focus.
The next major daily level is around $2,343.75, followed by approximately $2,187.50.
Ted Pillows’ weekly analysis also places important support around $2,215 if the current range breaks decisively.
This means the $2,440 to $2,460 area is more than just short-term support. A failure there could materially alter Ethereum’s near-term technical structure.
Federal Reserve Decision Adds a Macro Catalyst
Ethereum’s consolidation comes shortly before the Federal Reserve’s September 15 to 16 policy meeting.
Interest-rate expectations remain an important factor for risk assets such as Ethereum. Changes in Treasury yields, the US dollar and expectations for monetary policy can influence demand for speculative assets.
Until the Federal Reserve decision provides additional clarity, ETH could remain sensitive to shifts in broader market sentiment.
The substantial liquidation clusters surrounding the current price could further amplify any reaction to a major macroeconomic catalyst.
Ethereum Sits at a Critical Technical Crossroads

Ethereum is currently caught between two important zones.
On the downside, $2,440 to $2,460 represents the key support region. Holding this area could allow ETH to attempt another move toward $2,500.
On the upside, $2,490 to $2,508 is the immediate barrier, while $2,550 represents the more important level for confirming a broader bullish breakout.
Bullish Scenario
A sustained move above $2,490 followed by a break of $2,500 to $2,508 could bring $2,550 into focus. A weekly close above $2,550 would strengthen the case for moves toward $2,656 and potentially $2,812.
Bearish Scenario
A decisive break below $2,440 could expose approximately $2,344, with deeper support around $2,215 to $2,188.
For now, Ethereum remains locked inside its established range. The next decisive break, rather than the current sideways movement, is likely to provide the clearest signal about ETH’s next major direction.
