Shares of Empery Digital climbed after the company revealed it had sold nearly half of its Bitcoin holdings to finance an AI data center investment and strengthen its balance sheet.
Over the past two months, the company sold 1,400 BTC at an average price of $62,200 per coin, raising approximately $87.1 million. The announcement initially pushed Empery shares up more than 4%, signaling positive investor sentiment toward the strategic shift.
A portion of the proceeds was used to acquire a 25% stake in a Hunt Properties-backed venture developing an industrial site into an AI data center, while $10 million was allocated to repay outstanding debt.
Formerly an electric powersports vehicle manufacturer, Empery adopted a Bitcoin treasury strategy in 2025. However, the company has faced increasing pressure from shareholders to reconsider that approach, with one major investor previously calling for the strategy to be abandoned and for the company’s leadership to step down.
Following the sale, Empery’s Bitcoin holdings declined by 48% to 1,514 BTC, currently valued at roughly $97 million.
The move also comes shortly after Strategy, the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder, sold 3,588 BTC to fund dividend payments for its preferred shareholders. Despite breaking from its long-standing “never sell Bitcoin” stance, Strategy’s shares also rose after the announcement, suggesting investors are increasingly rewarding companies that balance digital asset exposure with broader capital allocation strategies.
Empery’s latest decision highlights a growing trend of companies redirecting capital from Bitcoin holdings toward artificial intelligence infrastructure, as demand for AI computing continues to accelerate.
