Crypto Daily: Taiko Bridge Exploit, Japan’s Pension Fund Eyes Crypto, and MEV Giant Loses $7.5M

The crypto market witnessed a mix of security concerns and institutional adoption today, as a major Ethereum layer-2 project suffered a bridge exploit, a Japanese pension fund explored crypto investments, and one of Ethereum’s most notorious MEV bots was hacked.

Taiko Warns Users After $1.7 Million Bridge Exploit

Ethereum layer-2 network Taiko has urged users to withdraw assets from all bridges connected to the network after hackers exploited a vulnerability that led to losses estimated at up to $1.7 million.

According to security researchers, the attackers manipulated Taiko’s chain verification system, allowing fraudulent bridge messages to be accepted and unauthorized assets to be released.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of cross-chain bridges, which remain one of the most targeted sectors in the crypto ecosystem.

Japanese Pension Fund Plans Crypto Allocation

In a sign of growing institutional acceptance, a Japanese corporate pension fund representing around 1,200 small and medium-sized businesses is reportedly preparing to allocate about 1% of its portfolio to cryptocurrencies.

The fund, which manages approximately $130 million in assets, plans to invest through a diversified crypto investment vehicle as part of a broader strategy to expand beyond traditional currency holdings.

The move highlights how digital assets are gradually becoming part of mainstream investment strategies in Japan.

Ethereum’s Infamous MEV Bot Suffers $7.5 Million Loss

Meanwhile, Jaredfromsubway.eth, one of Ethereum’s most well-known MEV bots, has reportedly lost more than $7.5 million after falling victim to a sophisticated exploit.

Security firm Blockaid said attackers tricked the bot’s automated trading system into approving malicious transactions, which were later used to drain funds.

The exploit is particularly ironic because Jaredfromsubway.eth is widely known for conducting sandwich attacks—a controversial trading strategy that profits by manipulating transaction order and often results in worse prices for ordinary traders.

The Bigger Picture

Today’s developments highlight two major themes shaping the crypto industry:

  • Security remains a critical challenge, particularly for bridges, DeFi protocols, and automated trading systems.
  • Institutional adoption continues to grow, with traditional investors increasingly exploring digital assets as part of diversified portfolios.

As the industry evolves, both innovation and security will remain at the center of crypto’s next phase of growth.
