Boerse Stuttgart Pushes Blockchain-Based Trading Infrastructure Across Europe

Key Highlights

  • Boerse Stuttgart’s digital settlement platform, Seturion, has partnered with major financial institutions to modernize Europe’s securities settlement system.
  • The initiative aims to reduce transaction costs and improve settlement efficiency for millions of retail investors.
  • Tokenized structured securities will become the first asset class launched on the new blockchain-powered infrastructure.

Boerse Stuttgart Group is expanding its push into blockchain-powered finance through a new partnership designed to modernize Europe’s fragmented securities settlement landscape.

Its digital settlement platform, Seturion, has joined forces with online brokerage giant flatexDEGIRO, French banking group Societe Generale, and crypto-focused subsidiary Societe Generale-FORGE (SG-FORGE) to develop a unified blockchain-based settlement infrastructure for European capital markets.

The collaboration aims to simplify post-trade processes, lower operational costs, and accelerate transaction settlement across the region using tokenized financial assets and regulated stablecoins.

Building A Blockchain-Based Settlement Network

Under the new partnership, Societe Generale will issue tokenized structured products — including investment certificates and turbo warrants — directly through the Seturion platform.

These tokenized assets will then trade across several European trading venues, including Boerse Stuttgart’s markets as well as Nasdaq’s European exchanges.

Retail investors using flatexDEGIRO’s platform, which serves more than 3.5 million customers across 16 countries, will gain direct access to these blockchain-based financial products.

Settlement for the transactions will occur fully on-chain through Seturion using regulated euro- and US dollar-backed stablecoins issued by SG-FORGE.

According to company executives, the blockchain framework is designed to solve one of Europe’s largest financial infrastructure challenges: fragmented settlement systems spread across multiple jurisdictions and institutions.

Seturion supports both public and private blockchain networks, allowing the platform to reduce settlement complexity, shorten transaction cycles, and lower overall costs for financial institutions and investors.

Matthias Voelkel, CEO of Boerse Stuttgart Group, described the initiative as part of a broader effort to help build a more unified European capital market.

He stated that Seturion is intended to function as an open industry solution capable of overcoming Europe’s fragmented settlement environment.

Traditional Finance Moves Toward Tokenization

While the infrastructure is designed to support multiple asset classes over time, tokenized structured securities will be the first products introduced on the network due to their large transaction volumes and strong demand in European markets.

Lidia Kurt, CEO of Seturion, explained that blockchain-based settlement becomes especially valuable for products involving high issuance activity and large transaction flows because faster and cheaper settlement can significantly improve efficiency.

Online brokerages are increasingly supporting tokenized infrastructure as customer demand grows for faster and more seamless trading experiences.

Oliver Behrens, CEO of flatexDEGIRO, emphasized that execution quality and settlement speed are becoming increasingly important within modern retail brokerage platforms, describing tokenization as an area with massive long-term potential.

The partnership also reflects a broader industry trend in which major banks and financial institutions are adopting blockchain technology to modernize outdated financial infrastructure and back-office systems.

Jean-Marc Stenger, CEO of SG-FORGE, said the collaboration serves as a bridge between traditional finance and the growing digital asset ecosystem, with regulated stablecoins playing a central role in enabling secure on-chain settlement.

Meanwhile, Christian Sagerer, a board member at Societe Generale’s Frankfurt branch, noted that the bank plans to use blockchain technology to improve the efficiency of issuing and distributing structured financial products across Europe.

As tokenization continues gaining momentum globally, initiatives like Seturion may become an important step toward building faster, cheaper, and more interconnected financial markets throughout Europe.
