Bitmine Reaches 4.9% of Ethereum Supply After Buying 53,500 ETH

Bitmine Immersion Technologies has extended its Ethereum accumulation streak to 65 consecutive weeks, adding another 53,501 ETH to its treasury. The latest purchase brings the company’s holdings above 5.9 million ETH, putting it close to its goal of controlling 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply.

  • Bitmine added 53,501 ETH in its latest purchase.
  • Its Ethereum holdings now exceed 5.9 million ETH.
  • The company controls approximately 4.9% of Ethereum’s circulating supply.
  • Bitmine is approaching its stated 5% ownership target.
  • Its ETH portfolio carries roughly $5.1 billion in unrealized losses.

Bitmine Extends 65-Week Ethereum Buying Streak

Bitmine Immersion Technologies continues to expand its Ethereum treasury despite significant unrealized losses on its holdings.

The company purchased another 53,501 ETH last week, marking its 65th consecutive week of Ethereum accumulation.

Following the purchase, Bitmine’s holdings climbed above 5.9 million ETH, worth approximately $14.8 billion based on an Ether price of around $2,511.

The company now holds an estimated 4.9% of Ethereum’s 120.7 million circulating supply, bringing it close to its publicly stated objective of owning 5% of the network’s available ETH.

Bitmine Maintains Its Strategy Through the Downturn

Bitmine has continued accumulating Ethereum despite a prolonged downturn that has significantly reduced the value of some of its earlier purchases.

According to the supplied data, the company’s Ether holdings currently carry approximately $5.1 billion in unrealized losses.

Those losses are paper losses rather than realized losses, meaning they reflect the difference between the current market value of the holdings and their acquisition costs.

Bitmine’s continued purchases demonstrate that management has maintained its long-term accumulation strategy despite the volatility experienced by the broader cryptocurrency market.

Tom Lee Points to Ethereum’s Recent Outperformance

Bitmine chairman Tom Lee highlighted Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana as the three strongest-performing major crypto assets since June 30, with Ethereum leading the group.

Lee argued that the recent performance could encourage institutional investors to increase their exposure to digital assets.

The thesis is based on cryptocurrency’s reported outperformance relative to other major macroeconomic assets during the third quarter so far.

If that performance persists, Bitmine expects institutional participation in crypto markets to potentially increase.

BMNR Shares Continue to Gain

Bitmine’s accumulation strategy has also coincided with a strong performance in its publicly traded shares.

The company’s NYSE-listed BMNR stock was up approximately 1.3% to $24.09 on Monday morning, according to the supplied Yahoo Finance data.

The shares were on track to finish August with an increase of nearly 40%.

The stock’s performance provides another indicator of investor interest in companies using cryptocurrency as a major component of their corporate treasury strategy.

Bitmine Nears Its 5% Ethereum Target

The latest purchase puts Bitmine within reach of one of its most significant stated objectives: controlling 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply.

With more than 5.9 million ETH already in its treasury, the company has established one of the largest corporate cryptocurrency positions in the market.

However, the scale of the holdings also exposes Bitmine to substantial price fluctuations. A major decline in Ethereum could increase its unrealized losses, while a sustained recovery could significantly improve the value of its treasury.

Bitmine’s 65-week buying streak shows that the company remains committed to its Ethereum accumulation strategy, even after absorbing billions of dollars in paper losses and navigating a highly volatile crypto market.
